Time for our sketch challenge.  You have until the last day of the month at 9 PM EST to play along.  Here’s the sketch:

Here’s What I did

DSCF6432

I used a Chipboard Background frame from Memory Maze Chipboard and added a mixture of mediums to it,  Distress Paint, Wow Embossing Powders, Distress inks and some stamping.

DSCF6428

I made a cluster of flower and leaves, added some bling and some flourishesDSCF6429I spent a while on those butterflies,  I split them down the middle and embossed the insides and then embossed the top before adding to the background frame.DSCF6430 I just love layers 🙂DSCF6431Some of my kids, the younger 4 who keep me on the go 24/7,  love them to bits and this photo really shows their personal characters.

Well I hope you enjoyed my wee share today and I look forward to seeing what you create for this challenge.  Remember you have until the end of the month to get your entry in!

Have fun and take care  xox Donna

Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge Time

I am totally guttered,  I had this post scheduled for when I was away and only have discovered that it did not go live!  I’m so so sorry!  so much has happened since I wrote this post that I have totally re did it!  hope you enjoy!  You may want to go grab a coffee/Tea.. hehe or maybe a glass on wine!

This  months Challenge at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge is …

Using sketch 11 – Father’s Day is celebrated in June in some countries – scrap a memory of your father or grandfather, or another male who has influenced your life greatly.
Using this sketch:

Our fathers day in New Zealand is a we bit away yet,  so I thought me being  me that I would do it on a male who has influenced my life greatly….  so can you guess who I did it on…  come on just one guess!   ok so how many of you lovelies got it right!  Well if you guessed  Mr TIM HOLTZ!, your 100% right  🙂  Tim Holtz is the creative director for Ranger,  I have spent many hours going over his u-tube demos,  read his blog and books and lastly played with product.  I love what he has developed and I am so glad that he talked Ranger into creating 7 different shades of brown.
I can now say that I have met him personally and he is truly amazing,  but I will fill you in on that part soon.  When I first started scrap booking I liked to stick photos down with glue, add stickers and if i was adventitious added a bit of chalk!  Since being introduced to distress inks, Tim Holtz stamps and a number of other Ranger products I have not looked back.  I love where my scrapbooking has taken me and hopefully one day it will take me to my dream …. Ranger U!
So here’s what I did!
I kept it pretty simple!  I added lots of inks,  a few embellies and stole the photo of Stamp it… you can find original photo here.
If you like the look of this you can find it in his new book or maybe come join in on a class at scrapbook paradise where I teach.
Another one of my favourite techniques at the moment.  Top the side you can see one of the new flourishes I get to play with from flourish with a bling.
I changed the colour of some lace with distress stain and added some tissue tape, added some stamping and that’s its..  Hope you enjoyed.
Anne has just put up this posting today…

Can’t wait to see who applies!!!!

Which leads into my other news.  Last night I decided that some things for me had to change, and sadly this means I am ending my Design Team Position with Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge.  With my kiddies all growing and new things happening I had to let a few things go.  I have had a ball here and learnt so much.  AFSC was my first ever DT  and I truly appreciated all that Anne and the team have taught me.    And most importantly all you amazing ladies that have been entering the monthly challenge!  you are all amazing and I have loved coming over to look at all your stunning projects!
I can’t wait to see who applies and when time allows me I will be back to play some challenges.
Now for our trip!
What a blast we had!  Six days in Sydney…  What an amazing place and so warm. People were swimming in the sea!  CRAZY!!!!  The flight over was awesome apart from my ears going on me!  The traffic was C R A Z Y,  so many cars!!!
Our hotel on Coogee Beach was stunning and huge,  we were on the top floor and had an awesome view of Coogee.  If you are ever there you need to go visit the Black Pony!  oh my it was divine… such wonderful food!
Saturday we ventured out into the big city, visited Paddies Market and then off to the convention Centre to see all the paper craft stall and of course Tim Holtz and Mario!
This guy is truly an amazing talent and put up with all my questions, lol and signed my journal!!!
After Tim’s Demo, we had a chat with the crew from Stamp it!  oh the goodies that are coming our way soon! so exciting….
After an eventful day we headed back to the hotel and found ourselves back at The Black Pony
for another fab meal!!!! Then time to settle down,  have a look at all the goodies we got from the day and plan our day of shopping.  Which we did in true fashion. Loads of fun and so much to see.  Monday was the reason we were here.  the day of all days…  I had butterflies in my tummy all morning!
Centre Front row seats,  the best view from the hotel ever lol.  Tim is such an amazing teacher!
The Man Mario,  the behinds the sence man is totally lovely,  here you can see him twittering.   And he loved his chewing gum for Mario Jr.  Enjoy!
Elena and Tim, such a cool photo,  there is more but on Elenas camera.
stolen from Scrapbook Paradise Facebook page 🙂 Tim and me !!!!
We spent the whole day going over 20 techniques to bring back and share with you all in future classes…. exciting.  The next day we went sight-seeing and a bit more shopping.  early off to bed to get the plane in morning.  First thing we did when we hit New Zealand ground!   A nice cold one.  well that’s all for now.  I do have lots more photos and things to share. I will finish my journal and pop it up on here and the shop for a bit!
See ya all later  xox Donna

Work in progress… my Journal!

Hello,  well hasn’t the weather changed!  Snow on the hills and very chilly…  Well over the past few days I have been making a Journal for my big trip to OZ to take with me to the Tim Holtz/Ranger Educator Course.   SUPER excited.  I realised the other day it will be the first time in over 19 years that I have been kid-less.  (hope I handle it)  hope they do to!  This is a work in progress and not yet finished,  but  getting there.  I will add photos and other memorabilia in it as I go.

I made the folder from scratch,  it started as a 12 by 12 bit of chip board,  used Tim’s binder rings for the center and then made pages.  The back ground on the front  of the  folder is my favourite tech right now.  The tag is totally inspired by Tim’s 12 months of tags, June.  Check it out here.  I did not have any nibs so I thought I would have a go at that technique when I get back.  I have used lots (7) of WOW embossing powders threw out this project.  There colours go wonderfully with  the distress ink  and disillusions sprays ( one of my New fav’s at the mow) > I have all so used one of my new swirls from flourish with a bling… so yummy.

Close up of manikin, I love this stamp and just about use her all the time.   I mixed Primary Ebony, Cable Car Red and Metallic Copper to emboss her.  I used  Cable Car Red for my title as well.  I think red has become one of my favorite colors

Here is one of my new delish swirls from Flourish With a Bling.  I have added some stamps effect metallic rub, copper to give it a distressed/vintage look.

View of outside of folder,  I used canvas and stained it with walnut stain  for the binding.

Top view, look at all those different colors….

Inside cover, first page.  Big pocket to add bits into.  I have made smaller pockets using Tim’s dry embossing plates and them embossed the with Wow cable car red.  added stains over it and embellished.

Close up of pocket,  Brads to where and from we are flying to.  I need some red cotton or twine to wrap round the brads, and I have circled the day we leave.

Living the dream….  says it all!

Pockets I have made, all using embossing powders and distress stain.

Gotta love a bit of metal

That’s all I am going to share for now,  still needs some work done on the background pages.  I can not wait to add all by trip memorabilia to it!

New Zealand Paper Chase has just put up there new challenge for the month,  Sonya has made a lovely sample to get you all inspired.  Don’t forget to start looking in your local book store soon, as  the new winter mag is about to be released.  Exciting.

Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge this month is scrap your wedding, so if you have some wedding photos and want to play we would love to see you.

Over at Flourish with a bling, the design team has put up there first challenge for the month,  there is some AMAZING samples to inspire you all.  The challenge is a colour one this month.

WOW Embossing Powders (US) blog has got amazing new ideas everyday.  Alway full of amazing art,  so go take a look.

So only 8 more sleeps till Elena and I go on our big adventure!!!!  YIPPEEEEE.  I have a couple of projects to finish off and write-up before I go as they will appear while I am away.  I need to start thinking about what I am going to take,  get all the meals cooked and kids sorted.  I have my passport, luggage, camara and other bits and bobs…  Do I need anything else.  What do you take when you go away?  Take care everyone,  and happy scrappin  xox Donna.

P.S  oh my gosh I am going to meet Tim  and Mario,  and I even have chewing gum for Mario Junior,  he collects it.  Actually good question.  Is there a chewing gum that is made from New Zealand?  anyone know.  I spent ages in the super market the other day reading the packets and they all seem to come from OZ.. help anyone.

Win a Guest Design Spot at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge!

It’s just been over Ten years since two of my dearest friends got married.  It was a magical day at the Garden which provided the perfect backdrop for their wedding.  Friends and family from all over came to share this special time.  Today I am sharing a project I have made for them.

Today challenge over at Another Freaking Scrappy challenge is…

Anne say’s… Our challenge this time is:

June is a popular month for weddings – how about scrapping yours?? If you have not married, scrap a photo of you as a child and how you dreamed it would be for you when you married.  If that does not suit you, then scrap your parents wedding, or someone close to you.
We also want to challenge you all to increase the numbers of people playing along with our challenges.  More people playing along means more fun, more friends and more inspiration!  So, if you convince a friend to play along in either of our challenges this month. tell them to let us know either in their blog posting or in a comment on this blog posting that you sent them to play along.  Your name will be entered for each referral you send for a chance to win our guest designer spot.   Yes, each referral you send is one more chance. And of course, each layout you enter in our challenges this month is one more chance at the guest DT spot.

The prize this month for the winner of our two challenges is a guest designer spot for the month of August.  We will feature your work with the team and provide links back to your blog so that visitors can get a closer look at your work.

I decided I wanted to do something really special.  Something that they could keep for ever.  I had an old wooden photo album that was black, so I sanded it down and re coloured with inks.  Then I sealed it and embellished it! take a look!
Don’t they just look stunning in this photo,  the love glows from them…
Tamara loves Dragonflies and the wedding was in the gardens so i went with the natural nature theme and added some vintage lace and some super yummy pearls from Flourish with a Bling.
Love the colours of this little bird.
I removed all the inner pages out of the middle, added one of Tim Holtz binder clips and made glimmer misted pages to match the brides maids dresses, we wore  purple,  so I also inked around the edges of each page with the color of our dress. I love how this turned out!   So everyone go find your wedding photo and get creating.  Look forward in seeing what you have created.  And don’t forget  about the GDT spot!  enjoy.  Happy Scrappin everyone    xox Donna

Up for a Challenge, come on over to Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge

Time for our 15 May scrapbooking  sketch challenge!!
Using sketch 10:
Use this sketch along with this challenge – Mother’s Day is celebrated in May in some countries – scrap a memory of your mother or grandmother, or another lady who has influenced your life greatly.
This months challenge was lots of fun.  My mum is an amazing lady and I really enjoyed putting this layout together.   My mum comes down from the coast when I have my babies,  and if anyone knows me well, its pretty often.    Through false alarms and long nights,  all my mood swings, my uncertainties and much more.  My mum was there for me!  I hope one day when my children have their children that I can be a rock in times of need.  These photos were taken not long after wee Alex was born.  I love these photos.
and some close-ups:  look at that smile 🙂
I loves these flowers and the title says it all
So now its your turn,  I would love to see what you come up with. Go check out the Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge blog for more amazing samples of this sketch.  Happy Scrappin everyone ….. xox Donna

Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge!!!

Anne Writes…   “I realize that for the southern girls, this is not springtime – but  in the Northern Hemisphere – 1 May is springtime, and time to be out in the gardens.  Scrap something about your garden – how you love to be out in it, or what it means to you, or alternatively how you hate to be outside gardening at all.  If you are not a gardener –  you could also alternatively scrap about an outdoor sanctuary that you appreciate – perhaps your mother’s garden or a park????”
Well we are about to go into our winter,  its freezing here at the moment.
I have been waiting for a garden for 6 years,  my other half has plans out the back for an AWESOME garden,  but so far it is still a big dirt pile with weeds growing on it.  I decided one day after sitting out the front, that he NEVER said anything about the front of the house.  So that day I pulled up all the bricks that was used for a path that we never use and replaced it with a garden.  You should have seen his face when he got home from work that night…  I love my little garden and if he does not get his a into g soon he might just come home to another surprise one day.   Heres what I did:
my first crop of winter veggies picked. and oh no I have just realised I have spelt that wrong!!!!  guttered.  but you all know what I mean. Veggies.
Ok,  that’s really bugging me now,  so when I get back from class tonight I will be fixing my spelling. Well that  is all I have to share for now. hope you all come along and join us .  Happy Scrappin everyone!

Missing in Action….

Well its been a rough few weeks for my family here in New Zealand.  School holidays are meant to be fun, but with recurring migraines and now a vomiting bugs going through our daycare which has been brought home by the kiddies has turned the holidays into a washing nightmare  of sheets and blankets.   Today I got news that my mum has been admitted to Hospital and really unwell.  I want  to jump  in my car right now and go home, but I’m afraid that with the bugs we have would make it worse.

On a happier note Amber-leigh and Jade are doing great in the play and I am just hoping they don’t get the bug as they have another three days of production.  My big girl Sammy was made redundant not so long ago but I am very proud to say that she is about to got to the third stage of interviews with national bank,  so so proud of her!

On the 15th of April, Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge went live with their fortnightly challenge.  I’m afraid I  did not get my layout done in time and let down the team a bit.  I’m sorry Anne.  I would still like to share the challenge with you all, and will share what I made when I get a call from smith city as their photo centre printer put lines all through my photos and had to clean the machines down,  was totally guttered as I finally had 10 mins to sneak down and was very disappointed when I opened up the packet of photos.

The challenge is….

Time for the 15th April 2012 scrapbooking challenge!

Using sketch 9 – April showers bring May flowers – scrap about a rainfall, or storm.  Perhaps the weather ruined your plans, or perhaps you were experiencing a drought or dry well and were relieved to see the heavens open.  Or you can scrap about anything in the springtime, how it makes you feel after the long winter, new life, whatever speaks of this time to you!! You might not want to scrap about your garden though, as you may be doing that soon here – hint, hint!!

Please use this sketch for inspiration:

Go check out the blog as the design team have created some awesome layouts to inspire you.
Well that’s  all for me today.  I will be back in a few days with an exciting blog hop for WOW Embossing Powders, thankfully I had this all ready to go last month!  Take care everyone and happy scrapping,  xox Donna

New Challenge up at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge

I hope you are enjoying the new layout of the blog,  Anne has done an amazing job!!!

This months Challenge is:

From The blog…”Time for the 1st April 2012 scrapbooking challenge! April Fool’s day – I hope you didn’t get suckered!! But if you did, I hope you took photos, because this scrapbook challenge we are challenging you to follow the prompt below:

This is April Fool’s day – scrap about a trick or prank that was either pulled on you, a friend, or that you pulled on someone else!!  If you have difficulty with this, you could alternatively scrap about a surprise you experienced or that you prepared for someone else (surprise birthday party??)
Well I choose to do surprise as I don’t have any photos of pranks,  well not ones that I can put on my blog.  I have an awesome one of Charlie at his 50th birthday but I don’t think he would EVER talk to me again,  which would not be a good thing.  So instead I have gone with a surprise and it was a goodies.  There is so much more to thins story.  Like me sitting up at the shop the day it was picked up and me telling my friend how cheeky I had been to try to get vouchers,  well it backed fired on me a bit!  But in an awesome Way!
MY TAKE:
I love to distress as you will all know by now.  Here I have used a technique that I learnt a few years ago when we went on a scrapbooking retreat!   Rip or cut your edges,  add a bit of water along the edge and when it’s soaked in start to roll it with your finger tips,  you can let it air dry or you can speed it up a bit by using a heat gun.  I must dig out that layout nd show,  it was very cool!.
Right for those who don’t have super powder eyes, it says…

You know when your partner asks you what you want for Christmas, You go ( well I do) The most expensive or sort after object you could wish for! Knowing full well that it will never happen. He would have to use his own imagination and think of something up for himself.

Charlie for months kept asking me “what would you like for Christmas” and I would always reply “a cricut”. Just new to the market and way out of our price range! Perfect for putting him in the right direction of Scrapbook Paradise and gift vouchers! Hehehe.

On Christmas morning I jumped out of bed like a little child, had a quick look under the tree and popped back into bed! Charlie ask what was I doing, my reply “oh just looking under the tree for my cricut! “no such luck” and went back to sleep as the kids were all still sleeping.

Finally we all woke up, very excited kids in toe we went into the lounge to see what Santa had brought! The kids were having a ball opening there new goodies. Charlie asked if I would like a cuppa! “sure” Two minutes later he came in carrying a box! I was jumping up and down with tears rolling down my face as I knew what it was even wrapped!

Well that’s my share for today,  hope you have enjoyed my wee story..  I have up graded since  this  cricut and I treated it like my baby!  They are so much fun.

Looking forward to seeing what you all get up to this time round!  Happy Scrappin everyone  xox Donna

Challenge Time

It’s that time again over at another freaking scrappy challenge.  But firstly I would like to say thankyou to all the awesome comments we received during our first blog hop!  You are all fantastic!  Thankyou for playing along with us.

The challenge:
March is the month where school children have a spring break in Canada.  Scrap some memories of a spring break (or another school break) that you experienced. We never travelled in our family for school breaks, but I did always enjoy the time outside or reading and just relaxing.
Here is a little blog candy that a random winner from this month’s challenges will receive:
Colorbok Paper Crush Scrap Pack
And here is what I came up with this month.
and some close-ups
Now this picture was not taken by me,  It was taken by a very talented long time family friend, Sean Colman.  Sean goes round New Zealand taking photos of everyday moments,  His photos capture the beauty of New Zealand and when I feel home sick for the Coast I offend find myself looking at his photos.  You can find Sean on Facebook here.  Go say Hello!    And thank you Sean for letting me use this photo.
Right so Why I chose to use this Photo.  When I was growing up I lived in a very small settlement just outside of Lake Brunner call Iveagh Bay.  We never travelled in our school holidays but we did find ourselves down the bay in the warmer months, swimming, exploring the little creeks or bush walking.  In the weekends family friends like the Colmans would come out for BBQ’s and we offend spent all day there into the early hours of the morning in front of the BBQ watching the stars while our parents talked.  lol… drank!
Now when I was younger I did not think this was my paradise….  I thought it was my…..,  well you could only guess.  Growing up in a small place has its disadvantages.  You think as a Teenager that its boring and there is so much more going on out in the big smoke closer to friends.  I look back now and realise just how lucky I was growing up where I did.  I have 6 children and not long ago took them back to the Coast for a holiday with my family.  There has not been one single day since we got that they have not asked can we go back to the Coast,  even the 4 yr old brings it up.   One day,  just maybe one day we might move back  but for now they will have to be happy with going there for holidays.
So instead we will look at the many millions of photos I took.. here’s a peak!
So dig out your photos and get scrappin,  look forward to seeing what you all get up to!   HAPPY SCRAPPIN EVERYONE  🙂  xox Donna
